Strong Performance by Island Gymnastics Academy Boys at Nova Scotia Competition

The Island Gymnastics Academy boy’s competitive team recently competed at the Dartmouth Titans Invitational (January 10-11) in Nova Scotia. This annual event attracts over 400 of the region’s best gymnasts.

Gabrial Ing and Ethan Arsenault

Gabriel Ing led the Level 1 under 10 boys with a first place finish in the all-around, as well as first on pommels and second on floor, vault, and high bar. Teammate Ethan Arsenault was sixth all-around and won a third place ribbon on pommels. Simon Burns won the Level 1 over 12 category with a first place finish all-around, after earning the top spot on floor, rings, and high bar, second place on parallel bars and third on vault. Ian McKenna was fifth all-around in the Level 1 over 12 category and placed third on floor and pommels. In Level 1 under 12, Ben Davidson was third all-around. Davidson also placed third on pommels, rings, vault, high bar and parallel bars and took second place on floor.

Titans

In Level 2 under 10, Trent McClure was first all-around and was the top performer on floor, pommels, rings, and parallel bars. McClure was also second on high bars and third on vault. Trent Quinn was the silver all-around medalist, placing second on floor, pommels, rings, vault and parallel bars. Quinn was the first place finisher on high bars.

 Ryan McKenna finished first all-around in Level 4 over 13. McKenna also took the top spot on vault, second on floor and third on rings.

 In Level 3 under 13, Jesse Robertson was second on pommels and Jacob Carver was second on floor. In Level 3 over 13, Donovan Ching was fourth all-around and second on floor. In Elite 3, Isaac Bourque was fourth all-around, second on rings, and third on parallel bars and pommels.

 C.J. Keliher, Men’s Coach at the Academy says “All the major clubs in the region were represented at this meet. Our gymnasts earned podium placings in every category we entered, and we took first place in four of them.”

International Success for Island Gymnastics Academy Gymnasts

Three of Island Gymnastics Academy’s senior gymnasts recently competed at the prestigious Valeri Liukin Invitational Meet in Dallas, Texas, Dec. 12-14. Since 1996, this meet has attracted top teams from across the USA and the world. As one of the largest and longest running international competitions in the United States, the Valeri Liukin Invitational brings together a strong field of competitors and is an outstanding opportunity to compete with future Olympic stars.

Senior Matt Gallant scored an impressive 73.100 to finish tenth all-around in Level 10.  He also placed sixth on parallel bars. Teammate Alex Mann won the silver medal in the all-around of the Level 9 category, following an impressive 1st place finishes on floor and pommels, second on rings and parallel bars, third on vault and fifth on high bar. In the Level 8 division, Ted Landry tied for the silver all-around medal. He also placed second on rings, and fourth on high bar and vault.

“The Academy has a long history of travelling to compete in big international meets. For our National level athletes, it is an important part of their preparation for Canadian Championships in the spring. ” says Academy coach C.J. Keliher.

The Academy’s Holiday Fun Competition was a great success with close to 100 participants. Teams consisted of one gymnast and one parent competing in a series of physical challenges and contests.  After building up an appetite competing, we all enjoyed a yummy potluck! Food, fun and fitness for all!!
