Team PEI Gymnasts Shine at Eastern Canadian Championships

PEI athletes boasted their strongest performance in years at the Eastern Canadian Gymnastics Championships, May 9-11 in St. John’s, NL. The annual meet featured over 700 of the top gymnasts from the four Atlantic provinces, as well as Ontario and Quebec.

 Novice 3 Team Award

PEI’s best performance of the weekend was from our Novice 3 women who recently won team gold at Atlantic Gymnastics Championships. Paige Mills had the highest scores to lead the women to a bronze team medal behind Ontario and Quebec. Mills also tied for fourth on vault. Tessa McGuigan followed up her recent Provincial and Atlantic titles with solid results including a fifth place finish on bars. Chelsea MacLeod added the team bronze to her many podium finishes this year and teammate Alicia Muttart posted her highest scores of the season.

“We were pleased with our meet results this weekend. To be competitive against provinces with a much larger pool of athletes makes us very proud.  ” says Team PEI coach, Sharon Gareau.

Tyro 3 Provincial champion Selina Mahajer, who also recently won the silver all-around medal at Atlantics, was sixth on beam. Teammates Kaylee McCabe and Madison Kelly-Maund delivered strong routines in their first Easterns, especially on bars. In Open 3, Provincial champion Megan Doucette claimed a seventh place finish on beam. In Level 3 men, Ryan McKenna placed sixteenth overall.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL COMPETITORS!!!!
