Successful International Meet in Bermuda for Island Gymnastics Academy Gymnasts

Several of Island Gymnastics Academy’s senior gymnasts recently competed at the 3rd annual International Gymnastics Challenge in Bermuda (Nov 15-16). In its 3rd year, this international event attracts gymnasts from across the US and Canada. Academy gymnasts earned a second place team award in addition to an impressive medal haul.

 Selina Mahajer led the Gold team with a 1st all-around finish in the 9-12 year old division, following gold medals on vault and bars, and silver on beam and floor. In the 13 year old Gold division, Tessa McGuigan took 1st all-around and the gold on beam, as well as silver on bars and floor and the third place finish on vault. Chelsea MacLeod was 2nd all-around and took silver on vault, beam and floor while finishing 5th on bars. Paige Mills took top place on vault and bars, 4th on floor and fifth on beam to finish 5th in the all-around.

 In the Gold 14-15 year old division, Annika Landry won overall gold and was 1st on floor and vault, 2nd on bars and 3rd on beam. In the Gold 16+ division, Natalie Haddad was the bronze medalist, placing sixth on bars, second on vault and floor and first on beam.

 In the Silver 13-14 year old division, Alicia Muttart was the top PEI performer earning the silver medal in the all-around, plus 1st place finishes on floor and beam, 3rd on bars and 5th on vault.  Sydney Sear was 5th all-around, with a 4th place finish on beam and fifth place on floor.

“Travelling to compete in international meets is an important part of our preparation. It gives our athletes the confidence and experience they need to succeed. Our success in Bermuda sets a great tone for the upcoming season.” says Women’s Program Director, Sharon Gareau.
