Success in Montreal for Island Gymnastics Academy Girls
Academy gymnasts competed recently in Montreal at La Gymnix Classique competition. This prestigious competition attracts close to 1000 participants and runs annually in conjunction with the Gymnix L’International, a World Cup event attracting the best gymnasts from all over the world. The team had the opportunity to watch a level of gymnastics beyond anything they have seen at local competitions. The international meet included gymnasts from Romania, Russia, New Zealand, Belgium, the United States, Sweden and Italy.
Academy gymnasts competed against clubs from across Canada and the US. They performed very well in this strong field of competitors. Megan Doucette was the team’s top performer, placing 4th place in the all-around in Open 3. Doucette also placed 3rd on floor, 5th on bars and beam, and 8th on vault. In Novice 2, Hannah Murray took 7th place on floor. In Tyro 3, Karisa Quinn tied for 5th on vault. Dara MacInnis led the Novice 3 team with a 6th place tie finish in the all-around, as well as 5th on vault and 8th on bars. Teammate Alexa McClure finished 7th in the all-around and placed 4th on bars. Emma Germain took 7th place on both vault and bars in the Novice 3 category. Annika Landry performed a new routine to earn a 6th place finish on bars in Open 4.
“Academy gymnasts have competed at Gymnix for many years. It is the best meet in Canada to experience high level competition across all categories and also have the opportunity to compete in an international meet.” says Women’s Program Director, Sharon Gareau.
