Podium Finishes for Island Gymnastics Academy at Prince Edward Classic

Island Gymnastics Academy athletes saw plenty of success at the annual Prince Edward Classic competition held in Charlottetown over the weekend. The Academy has hosted the event for the past nineteen years. Over 400 of the region’s top gymnasts competed from fourteen Atlantic clubs.

 Highlights from the women’s competition included a podium sweep by the Academy’s Argo 6 team, with Sophie Mayne taking gold, Maggie Campbell silver and Ella MacDougall bronze. Charlotte Thompson won the silver all-around medal in Argo 4, Alexa McClure took second place in Novice 7 and Reese Kelly won silver overall in Tyro 8. Selina Mahajer and Tessa McGuigan, members of PEI’s Canada Games team, took silver and bronze in the National Open category. Clare Murphy was the overall bronze medalist in Open 7 and Tanisha Tawil took bronze in Novice 6. In Tyro 6, Lauren Rafuse was second all-around and Katie Gaudet claimed the bronze. In Open 8 Natalie Haddad was the silver all-around medalist and Dara MacInnis was third.

On the men’s team, Ethan Arsenault claimed the all-around gold in Level 2 under 10. Teammate Gabriel Ing took silver. In Level 3 under 13, Baylen Jupp won silver in the all-around. In Level 1 over 12, Cameron Davis placed second overall. Seniors Scott Chandler were third and fourth all-around.  Canada Games team member Alex Mann was third all-around in the Junior category.

 “Our gymnasts were on the podium in virtually every category.  It was a strong showing by the Academy gymnasts.” says Head Coach Jim Rand.
