Podium success for Academy Gymnasts at International Gymnix in Montreal

Island Gymnastics Academy gymnasts competed recently in Montreal at the 25th annual International Gymnix competition. This prestigious competition hosted close to 1000 participants from many different countries including Belgium, Russia, Cayman Islands, Great Britain, Bermuda, and the United States.

Sophie Mayne led the Academy team with her gold medal performance on the floor following an exceptional score of 9.7. Mayne was 5th on beam, 3rd on vault and won the all-around bronze medal in the Level 7 category.

In Level 6, Grace Potter was 9th all-around, 8th on vault and tied for 3rd on floor with a score of 9.425. Teammate Sadie Lund claimed 4th place on bars. Hannah Murray placed 7th on bars and MacKenzie Paton was 4th on beam. Emma Germain was 9th all-around in Level 7 and took 7th place on bars and vault. Lauren Rafuse scored a 9.5 to tie for 7th on floor. In Level 8, Paige Mills placed 7th on floor.

 “Gymnix is the best meet in Canada to compete with high calibre clubs across North America and the Caribbean. To also have the opportunity to watch the international competitors in an Olympic year was especially exciting for the gymnasts.” says Academy Competitive Program Director, Sharon Gareau.
