The Island Gymnastics Academy recently asked nine of its most prominent athletes and builders to sign its Legacy Wall, a sign that will be a permanent reminder of those who have made a significant contribution to the Club.
Asked to add their signatures to the wall are, from left, Scott Chandler (gymnast); Matt D’Amour (gymnast); Gretchen Schleyer (builder); Jim Rand (builder); Lea Rand (builder); Shelley Hollinger (gymnast); Alice Ma (gymnast), and Brett Martin (gymnast). Missing from photo is Marla Callaghan (gymnast).
Schleyer, along with Jim and Lea Rand, began the Academy in 1981, and today it is one of the most successful sports clubs in the province, totalling over 1000 members annually in programs that range from Bouncing Babies to Adult Gym, in addition to offering training that sees athletes compete at regional, national, and even international meets.
All six gymnasts recognized were either national team members, national champions, or had appeared in numerous national championships throughout their competitive careers.
